Sandi Schmitt
Why I'm running
I have called Aurora's West Side home since 2005, and Ward 5 since 2018. For 20 years I worked in project management, including 17 years at a global consulting firm, asking hard questions and keeping projects on track. I stepped into semi-retirement to care for my family, including my mother, and I kept showing up for this neighborhood.
I have worked on Ward 5 issues since 2021, including the HelloFresh and Factor 75 facility. Too often, projects like new subdivisions, the Orchard sound wall, and that facility were done to us, not with us. I am running to put Ward 5 first, with a fresh start and a real voice at the table.
The platform
Three pillars for Ward 5
Mindful Local Development
Smarter growth that protects quality of life. Less concrete and industrial sprawl, fewer projects forced on neighborhoods, more green space and welcoming local shops.
Read the priorities 2An Analytical Approach to the Budget
Use 20 years of project management experience to scrutinize city spending, ask the hard questions, and push for fiscal discipline and transparent, balanced budgets.
Read the priorities 3Building Community Through Connected Events
With community input, better local events that bring neighbors together.

The only candidate with a project management background.
Elected
Already an elected official, a Fox Valley Park District Commissioner.
Since 2021
Working on Ward 5 community issues since 2021.
Done to us, not with us
Ward 5 deserves a seat at the table
Residents feel projects like new subdivisions, the Orchard sound wall and the HelloFresh/Factor 75 facility were done to the community, not with it. Sandi has been working on these issues since 2021, and she will keep showing up.
